Dagga found on golf course
Empangeni Country Clubs golf course is not a park for ball games and bicycles.
TEEN drug addicts and delinquents are destroying the Empangeni Country Club golf course – and management has had enough.
Not only are the remnants of their habit left to litter the course, they are damaging the greens and riding through sand bunkers.
According to Pro-Shop owner and green-keeper, Frans Kraftt, this sort of deviant behaviour has become a regular cause of complaint for club members.
The most recent incident occurred on Sunday afternoon when trespassing teenagers were spotted riding bicycles at the 5th hole and playing soccer on the green.
‘I was in the shop when some regular golfers came and told me of something happening on the course.
‘I quickly made my way down to the fairway and I saw two boys riding their bikes and about five boys playing soccer.
‘I was amazed they were playing right on the 5th green, destroying the grass.’
Kraftt was told by the boys that they had a remote for the gate leading onto the course and that is how they got in undetected.
After being warned that this was unacceptable and the course is only for golfers, Kraftt continued with his normal work routine.
It was not until the following morning that he saw the extent of the damage and the rubbish left behind.
‘A number of sand bunkers had been ridden through and the grass surrounding them had been damaged.
‘There were CD cases, broken CD disks and a whole lot of marijuana left behind.
‘There were burnt-out ends from dagga joints and cigarettes and even a piece of drinking straw with a white powdery substance left behind.
‘This sort of behaviour will not be tolerated and if it continues the only option remaining will be to get the police involved.’
