Hitting the streets for World Aids Day
Walkers trekked from the Zululand Observer Empangeni office to the Sanlam Centre to create HIV/Aids awareness.
LOCALS kitted out in their running gear and tekkies and took to the road for the annual World Aids Day walk which took place on Saturday morning.
Traffic police guided the walkers as they trekked from the Zululand Observer Empangeni office to the Sanlam Centre to create awareness.
Members then went out to deliver food parcels to a local orphanage.
World Aids Day is the longest-running international health commemorative day. The global theme for the World Aids Day Campaign is ‘Getting to Zero’, which echoes the UNAIDS’ vision of achieving ‘zero new HIV infections, zero discrimination and zero Aids-related deaths’.
This theme seeks to encourage individuals and communities to have non-discriminatory and non-judgemental access to adequate HIV, sexually transmitted infections and tuberculosis prevention, treatment, care and support.
