Bone care for senior citizens
Community project teaches pensioners about osteoporosis.
RICHARDS Bay senior citizens were enlightened about osteoporosis and the importance of exercise at the Brackenham Community Hall on Wednesday morning.
The community outreach project was part of Signature Cosmetics’ initiative to educate people about health issues.
It was spearheaded by community leader and radiographer Anelisa Moyo, who informed pensioners about the disease, and illustrated various exercises and tactics to keep healthy and fit.
‘Osteoporosis is a disease in which bone tissue is reduced, thus increasing the risk of fracture which usually involves the hip, spine or wrist.
‘Many individuals without risk factors may still develop osteoporosis.
‘A bone density measurement is currently the best predictor of fractures,’ said Anelisa.
Pensioners also played game as part of the educational process, and treated to delicious breakfast and lunch.
