CRIME reporting and certification of documents can now be completed at the Mobile SAPS Community Service Centre (CSC) which opened at Boardwalk Inkwazi Shopping Centre in Richards Bay earlier this month.
The mobile facility is operational from November to January and allows shoppers easier access to services provided by the SAPS.
It is situated between Pick n’ Pay Liquors and Matrix Computers and police officers are available daily during operational hours.
Richards Bay SAPS Communications Officer, Captain Debbie Ferreira said the centre complements the existing CSC at Richards Bay Police Station and shoppers are encouraged to utilise it.
‘Shoppers have been extremely helpful in identifying some wanted suspects, whose pictures have been displayed on the window and we have since received vital leads as to their whereabouts.
‘The CSC has been beneficial in our efforts to combat crime and service the community while the increased police foot patrols and visibility inside the shopping centre have helped to deter criminal activity,’ said Captain Ferreira.
Safety over festive season
Captain Ferreira stressed the importance of taking extra care when shopping over the festive period.
‘There is more spending at this time and bonuses are usually paid too; we urge businesses to move cash safely and the public must not throw their hard earned cash on ‘get rich quick’ schemes’.
‘There will be an increased number of opportunistic criminals prowling around and people must be alert when withdrawing money in the banks or at ATM’s.
‘Also, shoppers must not leave their handbags in the trolleys and should refrain from locking valuables in the boots of their cars.’
Incidents of theft out of motor vehicles also rise during this period.
Stockvelds are also encouraged to utilise electronic transfer methods to pay members to avoid carrying large sums of money.
