Suburb library takes shape
Construction on the Aquadene Community Library is scheduled for completion by June.
CONSTRUCTION of the Aquadene Community Library is moving ahead at full steam, with plenty of progress in evidence just months after the development commenced.
Residents of the suburb have heartedly welcomed the community asset, which is situated in Via Ammannia street, opposite Floraton Primary School, and are excited to see the development unfold.
Construction is scheduled for completion by June but the library will only be fully functional within the next few years as it is a three year project, which will receive support and funding from provincial libraries.
Easily accessible to both the suburb’s primary and secondary schools, it will also benefit the several Early Childhood Development Centres and Preschools in the area.
The state of the art facility will be resourced with book materials, computers and internet as well as a study area and hall.
Once functioning at optimal level it will employ five full-time staff.
At numerous past public meetings, the need for the facility was raised as children were left with no other option but to utilise the Brackenham Library or the Richards Bay CBD Library.
And as many children walked a footpath between the suburbs to access the Brackenham library services, there were several reports where youngsters were attacked or robbed of their possessions.
Councillor Ahmed Dawood said developers were urged to employ workers from the community and surrounding areas.
