CITY of uMhlathuze Municipal Manager Dr Nhlanhla Sibeko has heaped praise on former Speaker Mvuseni Mnqayi, describing him as as a dedicated community leader.
The former Ngwelezane Councillor and Speaker of the biggest municipality in the uThungulu District, has joined the KZN Department of Community Safety and Liaison.
‘I can confirm that Cllr Mnqayi has tendered his resignation with the municipality.
‘He left us at the end of October. No Speaker has been appointed as yet, but we have notified the Provincial IEC in order to declare a vacancy. The responsible party will give us a candidate to fill the vacancy. The matter will go to full council and a Speaker will be nominated,’ said Sibeko.
‘Working with Mnqayi was an absolute pleasure and I’m convinced that he will do well where he is now.’
Mnqayi, who described himself as an ANC deployee, said he was grateful to have been part of the local government, even though it had been a short spell.
He has been appointed as KZN Provincial Civilian Secretary in the Office of the MEC for Community Safety and Liasion, Willies Mchunu.
‘I have made my contribution on how best to address issues affecting our community in terms of service delivery, and I remain positive that uMhlathuze will continue looking after the welfare of its citizens.
‘As deployees of the ANC ours is to respond to the fresh mandate that the party gives. I am also excited to have been given more tasks to perform at provincial level, and I hope I will not disappoint.’
Mnqayi, an nurse by profession, is no stranger to community safety matters, as he himself has been part of crime fighting initiatives.
He has served in various crime combatting initiatives including being the Chairperson of the Empangeni Community Policing Forum.
