A SEVEN-year-old girl died on Wednesday afternoon when she drowned in the Nyalazi River while fetching water.
Luyanda Mthiyane of Makhambane near Mtubatuba reportedly went to the river at about 3pm with other local children to fetch water.
Soon afterwards, the children’s screams were heard coming from the river.
They reported that Mthiyane had fallen into the river and could not be seen.
One of the residents attempted to locate Mthiyane and, after following a trail of bubbles, found her lifeless body.
