16 injured in minibus crash near Kwambo

Paramedics responded to two minibus taxi accidents last night.

TWO serious accidents were reported in Zululand last night.

The first took place on Sunday evening at 6.30pm on the N2 just past KwaMbonambi when a bakkie and a minibus taxi collided.

According to reports, a total of 16 patients were injured, with the cause of the accident unknown.

‘One patient was critical, 14 sustained serious injuries and an additional one sustained minor injuries,’ said KZN EMS Media Liaison Officer, Robert McKenzie.

Later on Sunday evening at 8pm emergency services on the KZN North Coast attended to a collision between a car and a minibus taxi on the R102 near Stanger at the Fort Pearson intersection.

‘The team of paramedics from several ambulance services assessed the patients, however, two people sustained fatal injuries during the collision, which left the road partially obstructed,’ said McKenzie.

The patients were treated before being transported to medical facilities including Stanger Hospital, for continued care.

The police are investigating the cause of this accident as well.
