
NGWELEZANE Magistrate Mr Hlatshwayo recently delivered a strong message to rapists when he sentenced a KwaMbonambi man to 25 years behind bars.
Sfiso Mvelase (23) and Pino Mdletshe (22), both of KwaMbonambi, were accused of luring a 22-year-old woman and a 15-year-old girl into nearby sugarcane fields as they walked from the Ntoyeni Reserve to a nearby location.
There the pair raped the woman and girl before stealing one of the victims’ phones. The suspects were arrested the following day.
On completion of the investigation, the case was referred to Ngwelezane Magistrate’s Court.
Magistrate Hlatshwayo found the pair guilty and sentenced Mvelase to 25 years behind bars for rape, while Mdletshe received 10 years in prison for rape and a further two years for robbery.
In another case,which occurred in Mbumbumbu Reserve near KwaMbonambi in November last year, 17-year-old Sabelo Jeffrey Nsele was found guilty of rape and sentenced to five years in prison.
Nsele was accused of raping a five-year-old girl who he found alone in a homestead while looking for stray cattle.
