Crime-hit residents to pray for safety
The prayer meeting will be held on Sunday 2 November from 6pm to 7pm at AGS Lewende Waters.
WHILE the war against crime is being fought at a physical level, a Meerensee pastor believes the unsettling effects on residents need to also be cared for at a spiritual level.
‘There has been an onslaught of crime, house-breakings and illegal entrances onto premises in Meerensee lately,’ said Pastor Hennie Espag.
‘We are aware of the fact that people in Meerensee are taking measures in protecting themselves in cooperation with the Community Police Forum, SAPS and other security entities.
‘That is an excellent starting point, but as a Christian church in Meerensee we also want to do our part in the fight against crime.
‘One of the biggest weapons we as Christians have is the power of prayer and we therefore offer our church building as a gathering place for residents of Meerensee to come together, and to take hands and stand up in prayer against crime in our city.
‘We come together and pray for rain. Why not pray against this threat in our city?’
Pastor Espag said the proposed prayer meeting should not be seen as a church-related initiative, but instead as a community outreach to stand up for safety and peace.
The prayer meeting will be held on Sunday 2 November from 6pm to 7pm at AGS Lewende Waters on the corner of Loodsvislyn and Pinkie Pool and is open to all.
