KZNCD were dismissed in the 44th over for 183 runs.

THE KZN Coastal Districts (KZNCD) cricket team got their 2014/15 campaign off to a flying start, after beating Griqualand West Rural by 80 runs at Addison Park on Saturday in a round robin clash of the South African Rural competition.

The visitors won the toss and selected to take a crack with the cherry in hand.

KZNCD were dismissed in the 44th over for 183 runs, after scoring at an average rate of 4.16 runs per over.

Johnny Riekert scored a slow 68 off 105 balls, with Gareth Bishop knocking 30 off 67 balls.

N Cloete 3/18 in 7.3 and D Swart 2/38 in 8 overs were the pick of the Griqualand bowling attack.

The visitors headed to the crease with wood in hand and a boost of confidence after a great fielding performance.

But then spinner Stephan Joubert entered the bowling attack.

Joubert ripped through the batting line-up, ending with figures of 5/17 in 10, with a 1.7 run per over rate.

Trevor Kietzmann also got reward for putting in the hard yards, with figures of 2/25 in 6 overs.

Griqualand were bowled out for 103 in the 36th over, with W Davids 30 and J Seroot 25 the only batsmen to reach double figures.

KZNCD will travel to Witbank on Saturday, 25 October to take on Mpumalanga in their next fixture.
