FIVE suspects charged with the murder of a man near Mtubatuba on 15 September appeared in the Magistrate’s Court on Monday for their formal bail application.
All five were released on R1 000 bail.
July Ndlazi, Muziwenkosi Ncube, Themba Mdluli, Justice Tembe and Thulani Gumede were arrested and charged with murder after assaulting and burning to death Sandile Gumede.
The 20-year-old from Nkanini near Mtubatuba was reportedly chased by the group, who then assaulted him and set him alight.
Mtubatuba police were notified shortly thereafter and made the arrests a few hours later.
In keeping with their conditions of bail, the suspects must report to the St Lucia Police Station everyday and not leave the area, nor interfere with witnesses.
The trial is set for 13 November at the Mtubatuba Magistrate’s Court.
