Lighting up Mthonjaneni

Lighting up the lives of the rural communities around Melmoth.

IN an attempt to light up the lives of rural communities, South African-based Net1 Mobile Solutions (NIMS) donated 500 Sun-e-light solar powered lamps with cell phone chargers to members of the Melmoth community.

‘We created the Sun-e-light for South Africans who have little or no access to electricity, as an ongoing corporate social investment project,’ says Philip Belamant, Managing Director of N1MS.

‘We heard that the members of the Melmoth community do not have electricity in their homes and we hope that the Sun-e-lights will give students the light that they need to study, while giving their parents some much needed illumination in the home too.’

The second generation Sun-e-light will be Wi-Fi capable and is expected to be used as a Wi-Fi hotspot.

It is expected that users will be able to use this functionality to do research online and experience the digital world, which will, for example, provide learners access to academic materials and school graduates access to job-searching portals.

Cash Paymaster Services (CPS) has assisted with the distribution of the Sun-e-lights through its extensive transportation infrastructure.
