Coastline damage after high tides

See the dune erosion north of Alkantstrand.

The gale-driven storm that hit the Zululand coastline two weekends ago once again ate big chunks out of the vulnerable coastal dunes north of Alkantstrand.

With rising ocean levels due to global warming, storm surges are increasingly damaging the coastal defences.

A drive along the beach with Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife on this morning revealed the extent of the dune erosion as the sea relentlessly attacks the land.

This video was taken at the approach to 5 Mile Beach.
