Political ‘conspiracy’
The ANC's regional head claims he is a victim of a political plot.
ANC regional head Thulani Mashaba says attempts by political opponents to smear his name ahead of the ruling party’s conference later this month, will not succeed.
This after false rumours surfaced this week that the home of the ANC Musa Dladla chairman had been reportedly raided by the Hawks last week.
However, in an exclusive interview with Mashaba on Wednesday, the uThungulu District Deputy Mayor confirmed that a case of housebreaking was being investigated after his Veldenvlei home was raided by unknown suspects last Thursday.
‘We were asleep when suspects gained entry through a window in the early hours of the morning.
‘My personal belongings were taken including cellphones from my bedside, ipads, a bag with important documentation, IDs, passports and bank cards.
‘People saw police combing my property and the rumours began.
‘It is no secret that we were burgled,’ Mashaba told the Zululand Observer.
Distancing himself from the false allegations, Mashaba said it was the work of a ‘political conspiracy’ against him.
‘Whoever is orchestrating this character assassination is not going to succeed.’
‘I am not a criminal so in no way will the Hawks come to me. I am not under investigation.
‘Even a Facebook letter tried to implicate me in dealings with municipalities.
‘They will not succeed in punishing me in the run-up to the ANC conference.’
Threatened
Despite two guards at the residence, surveillance cameras and top security systems, the suspects were able to make off with goods while Mashaba, his wife and two children aged two and five years were asleep.
‘They threatened my family and we are now living in fear. I am a victim of crime and we are still trying to deal with the trauma of thieves coming into my bedroom.
‘I think they came for my life and my God stood with me and protected me. Otherwise, I would have been history by now,’ Mashaba said.
Richards Bay SAP spokesperson Captain Debbie Ferreira confirmed that a case of housebreaking was opened and that the matter was being investigated by the provincial office.
