Troops join cancer warrior’s fight

St Lucia community rallies behind long-time resident and cancer patient to raise funds for medical expenses.

THE St Lucia community is rallying behind long-time resident Janine Siedle, who was recently diagnosed with terminal cancer.

Friends and family are raising funds to assist with her ongoing medical expenses and day-to-day running costs.

Having successfully fought breast cancer on two previous occasions, Janine has now been diagnosed with advanced stage four cancer of the liver, lungs, bone and bone marrow, for which there is no cure. Janine has no medical aid, very little resources and she is single mother to two children, Jessica (16) and Kyle (10).

More than 150 people squeezed in to Gianni’s restaurant in Ballito on 14 August for a fund-raising dinner and auction which added an astounding R96 000 to her fund. As her medical expenses are ongoing, fund-raising will continue.

A number of prizes are being raffled, including a lucky draw prize of two nights for two people sharing at the superb Makakatana Bay Lodge situated inside the Western Shores section of the iSimangaliso Wetland Park. The prize is valued at R13 800 and anyone who donates to Janine’s fund qualifies for the draw.

Anyone wishing to donate to Janine’s fund can do so by depositing money into Absa Bank Ballito, account number 9297828393, branch number 632005 and account name ‘Janine Fund’.

When donating use your surname as a reference. Those wishing to enter the lucky draw must use their surname +GL as a reference. Once the donation is deposited, email Deirdre Aveyard on deirdre@homezoneballito.co.za with your name, contact number and proof of payment.
