Feast of goals at EHS

Old Mill High School claimed the boys title at the Central Park Spar soccer tournament held at EHS.

THE Empangeni High Schools (EHS) sports fields were abuzz with soccer action on Saturday where seven local schools competed in the inaugural Central Park Spar Empangeni High School Junior Soccer Challenge.

Old Mill High School stole the spoils in a penalty shoot-out against the hosts in the boys finals, while the EHS girls squad claimed the title after extra time.

The schools competing were Empangeni High School, Felixton College, Richards Bay Christian School, St Catherine’s School, Richem High School, Birdswood Secondary School and Old Mill High School.

EHS beat St Catherine’s 2-0 in the first girls semi-final, while Birdswood Secondary School claimied a narrow 2–1 victory over Richem High School.

The girls final was a nail-bitter, with EHS claiming the trophy after a 1-0 win in extra time.

Sibahle Zulu of EHS was awarded the Girls Player of the Tournament crown after her significant contribution and all-round performance.

The boys semi-finals saw EHS edge 3-2 past Birdswood Secondary School and Old Mill High School just sneaking into the final after a 4–3 win over Felixton College.

The final was a close affair, which lead to the penalty shoot-out after no winner emerged after extra time.

In the end, it was Old Mill who managed to keep their cool and claim the title.

The Boys Player of the of Tournament award went to Innocent Ndebele of Old Mill.
