Well worth the walk

Schools take note: Big SANCA walk prizes up for grabs!

THIS Saturday sees the hosting of the 8th annual SANCA/Bay Watch ‘Walk Away From Drugs’ event.

The colourful family stroll will see entrants meeting at the Zululand Yacht Club for the 9am start, preceded by an energetic Boot Camps warm-up, the Vikings strong men in action, face painting and other activities, so get there early.

Registration starts from 7.30am.

The walk itself is a there-and-back around Naval Island, with plenty of water tables providing refreshment and fun along the way, while CPF marshals and Netcare 911 ambulance personnel will ensure walker safety.

Besides supporting SANCA, a most worthy cause in the fight against drug and alcohol abuse, there are a number of prizes to be won, especially for schools that enter in great numbers.

Courtesy of BHP Billiton, the school with the most walkers will receive a computer, printer and scanner – a wonderful prize well worth making a special effort.

On top of this, the Richards Bay IDZ has thrown in a computer desk, so the whole package is just waiting to be claimed.

Mondi Richards Bay has also made a great contribution, donating 20 reams of paper to be divided among the 2nd and 3rd placed schools.

Entries are not limited to schools or teams, so families and individuals are urged to join the walk.

Dress up, wear a fancy hat, carry a banner, write a slogan or simply ‘do your own thing’ to make the day special.

Prams and pets are also welcome.
