Bay courier company robbed

The quick response by security guards spooked thieves in Dollar Drive.

THE quick response from a local security company had thieves running for their lives after they burgled a courier company in Dollar Drive.

Shortly after 2am yesterday, two unidentified men broke into DHL Richards Bay through a window at the back of the building. The CCTV footage of the break-in showed the thieves gained entry through the Operations Managers’ office window, then went into the bar area and another storage room before finding the high value cage which they ripped opened and stole a consignment of goods..

Three boxes were taken including an office printer and documents.

However, on arrival of the speedy FBI Security guards, the thieves dropped two boxes and ran off with the shipment box.

Even though the guards fired two shots at the men and chased them, they managed to escape. DHL Richards Bay Representative Manager, Yusuf Suliman, was alerted to the break-in and attended the scene shortly after the drama ended.

Yesterday morning, Suliman and two other staff members, Babs Rajgopaul and Kevin Padayachee, went into the nearby veld to search for the stolen box. Fortunately, after walking a few metres into the bush, the box was recovered. The items were still intact even though the box’s seal was broken.

‘I am extremely impressed with the response from FBI Security. Within minutes the guards were on the scene. They were very helpful and a case was opened immediately.

‘The footage clearly showed what happened and the suspect not wearing a balaclava can be easily identified. I hope that they are prosecuted for their unlawful actions,’ said Suliman.
