Local man dies at ArcelorMittal
The man, believed to be a contractor, sustained severe head trauma.
AN Empangeni boilermaker died on Sunday at ArcelorMittal in Newcastle.
The Zululand Observer’s sister newspaper, the Newcastle Advertiser reported the incident at the steel manufacturing company, which claimed the life of Reinier Dippenaar, a 33-year-old semi-skilled boilermaker.
Gracious Maswanganyi, Manager – Corporate Social Responsility and Communications for ArcelorMittal South Africa, issued a statement yesterday.
‘It is with great sadness that ArcelorMittal South Africa confirms that a contractor working at the Newcastle Plant sustained fatal head injuries on Sunday, August 10. Mr Dippenaar, who was employed at Yandisa Tony’s Construction, sustained fatal head injuries when he was removing a redundant 150mm diameter pipeline situated approximately 350mm above another pipeline.
All relevant authorities have been informed and investigations were underway.
The Department of Labour has also inspected the area and cleared it for operations to continue.
With regards to the death of Reinier Dippenaar. He was infact 33 years old, and had a daughter of 10 years old and a son of 5 years old!
