Dogs rescued from house fire

Swift reaction by response officer saves the day.

SMART thinking by an ADT response officer prevented serious structural damage at a house fire in Coucal Cover, Birdswood yesterday.

Nkhweleleni Mukhavhuli went to the address after the home alarm was activated.

On arrival, he checked the premises where all seemed to be in order.

However, when he pressed his hands against a window pane it was hot to the touch.

‘There was no sun shining onto the glass, so I realised something was wrong.

‘Together with one of the neighbours who arrived we did further investigation and noticed a bit of smoke coming through roof tiles at the back of the house,’ said Mukhavhuli.

The fire brigade as well as the house occupants were called and on entering the premises two small dogs were rescued.

The cause of the fire appeared to be an electrical short and due to the swift arrival of firemen – thanks to Mukhavhuli – little damage was incurred.
