Light shed on nude intruder
Medical condition led to break-in at doctor's rooms.
ALL charges have been dropped against the Richards Bay man who was found naked last Saturday in the doctor’s rooms where he had forced entry after midnight.
Wynand Viljoen (39) was reportedly ‘extremely sorry’ for what he had done – but has no recollection of breaking into the property.
His employer for the past 11 years said he had visited the doctor to explain that Viljoen’s actions were due to a medical condition and, satisfied with the explanation, the doctor had immediately withdrawn the charges.
‘We paid for the damages and parted on friendly terms with the doctor,’ said the employer.
‘Wynand is not a criminal, not by a long shot.
‘He acts in a supervisory position and is really a hard worker, definitely an asset to my company.
‘Unfortunately he has diabetes and is insulin dependent and must inject himself four times a day.
‘To make matters worse, in 2012 Wynand, was admitted to Ngwelezane Hospital and contracted tuberculosis. He started treatment for TB three months ago.
‘There is an obvious clash between this TB medication and his normal insulin intake and he now has regular episodes when his sugar drops.
‘It is during these episodes that Wynand totally loses himself and if you did not know him, he would appear to be drunk or on drugs.
‘He has no recollection of what had happened and normally recovers within an hour after he has eaten and had a Coke.
‘I believe all this could have been prevented if Wynand did not go out for a beer on Friday night!
‘Unfortunately he did, and his sugar dropped so low that he did not know where he was, and landed himself in all this trouble.’
