I WISH to bring to your attention an ongoing problem that is steadily worsening in the Kildare area of Empangeni.
The recreational park in Farewell Road is adjacent to my residence and is currently being used by drug dealers, prostitutes and binge drinking party revellers.
Owing to the fact that there are three access points leading in and out of the area, any type of vehicle is easily able to enter. The result of this is that every kind of tasteless and even illegal activities are taking place there daily.
When the matter is reported to SAPS, it is not treated with the seriousness it warrants. Therefore I am pleading with you, honourable mayor, to make the necessary call to close off all access routes leading into and out of this park, thereby preventing vehicle access.
I have attached a few pictures of a party that took place there on Friday afternoon that went on until the early hours of Saturday morning.
When I contacted the SAPS (three times) I was eventually told that all persons are allowed to have parties until 10pm, but should disperse thereafter.
However, is it not still illegal to consume alcohol in public and to broadcast music off a loudspeaker system in public?
The photos also show the aftermath of the party and all the litter that was strewn, as well as the damage to the table and chairs inside the park.
As a ratepayer I cannot condone this behaviour.
If vehicle access was prevented then all the hooligans that frequent the park and annoy the ratepaying residents will not be allowed to mess the place week after week.
It will also prevent prostitutes from conducting their business within the park, as well as drug dealers peddling.
The park should be meant for little children and families and certainly not a free venue for lowlifes.
