Hluhluwe retain unbeaten record

Nail-biting game between Hluhluwe and eShowe.

HLUHLUWE Rugby Club continued its unbeaten run by beating eShowe at home by three points in a thrilling Weber Cup encounter.

The visitors opened the scoring with a penalty by Riaan Smal, 10 minutes into the game.

This lead was wiped out two minutes later with Bonginkosi Maduna putting a penalty through the posts to level the cores at 3-3.

eShowe took the lead 15 minutes into the game with a try by left-winger, Sibusiso Khawula.

Bonginkosi Maduna had no problem adding another two points with the conversion.

Lourens Wahl kept the scoreboard ticking with a drop goal, giving eShowe a 13-3 lead going into half time.

Hluhluwe came back strongly in the second half with Richard Lelyveld crashing over for first of his two tries five minutes into the second half.

The conversion by Smal was successful and Hluhluwe were trailing by three points.

Lelyveld got his second try 10 minutes from the end of the game, putting Hluhluwe in the lead for a second time in the match with a score of 13-18.

The score remained the same as Smal failed to convert,

With just over a minute left in the game, Brighton Nkwanyana managed to keep his momentum and reached over the try line to score for eShowe.

Maduna failed to convert and the scores were level at 18 points each.

In the last minute of play, eShowe gave away a penalty which Hluhluwe’s Smal took with both hands and Hluhluwe won the game by three-points.

The Hluhluwe forward of the day was Philane Mkhize and the backline player was Mathew Houghting.

eShowe’s Ray Gerber and Brian Cope were nominated as forward and backline players respectively.

The eShowe Players’ Player was Johan le Roux.
