Snake Wine (South-East Asia)

A popular beverage in countries like China and Vietnam, it is believed to have important restorative properties. Made by either steeping a snake in rice wine or mixing the serpent’s bodily fluids, such as blood, with the alcohol.

Fugu (Japan)

A Japanese delicacy, this dish is made by slicing sashimi from a pufferfish, which is exceptionally toxic. The dish needs to be prepared with the utmost care to ensure that not even a trace of the internal organs remain, as this is where the poison is stored.

Fried Tarantula (Cambodia)

Served with lime and black pepper dip, this Cambodian delicacy has been described as rather bland, tasting like a cross between chicken and cod.

Sannakji (Korea)

A traditional Korean dish where a live octopus is chopped up and served whilst the tentacles are still moving. Unsurprisingly, this dish is warned off as a choking hazard

Escamoles (Mexico)

The larvae of an ant that is harvested from the roots of the blue agave plant, it is a very popular snack and looks very similar to rice.

Beondegi (Korea)

A traditional snack in Korea, it is prepared by stewing silkworm pupae. Served either as soup or dried after stewing to eat as a snack

Black Ivory Coffee (Worldwide)

Originally from Thailand, this terribly expensive brew is cultivated from coffee beans that have passed through the digestive system of a Thai elephant.
