IN response to the article ‘Community takes revenge’, I would like to first offer my condolences to the family of the murdered boy.
I must admit that while a part of me cheered on the group of people who took their vengeance by setting fire to the accused pastor’s church, there was simply too much senseless destruction involved to overlook their actions.
Not only did a young boy lose his life, but a church, a place of sanctity, was burned down and the lives of many people, including two individuals aged 17 being arrested, have almost certainly been traumatised by these actions.
The futures of those two young people will be in constant jeopardy because of what appears to be a case of mob mentality.
I will not claim to know what it is to lose a child. The feeling of grief and loss are not within my understanding.
That being said, this was a foolish undertaking to say the least. Not only has this group caused destruction to a public building – and a holy one at that – but they have probably destroyed any and all evidence that could have been used to convict the killer(s).
It should have been left to the police to handle. After all, that is why they are there and what they are paid to do.
