Zululander nominated for film award
Local film producer nominated for a Simon Mabhunu Sabela film award.
HIGH flying filmmakers around the province are gearing up for the annual Simon Mabhunu Sabela film awards, and local film producer Dumisani Khoza is making his way to the top of the ranks as a nominee.
Owner of Azokh Film Media, Dumisani’s movie ‘Imfihlo – My secret’ was recently nominated for the New Entrants category.
A touching story of a young girl who dreams of becoming a TV producer, viewers are taken on a journey of how she pursues her dreams without the support of her family and the challenges experienced along the way.
Dumisani, along with his team Cebo Phewa and Nqobile Mbuyazi, have been involved in the industry for years and are finally gaining the recognition they need to evolve their business.
His next project involves encouraging young potential filmmakers to get involved in the industry and learn all there is about the art of producing a film – from start to finish.
‘I love to work with young people straight out of high school who have the potential to make it in the film industry, but who have no support,’ said Dumisani.
‘I want to teach them everything there is to learn, from directing to writing scripts.’
Azokh Film Media’s sponsors Top Classics, Shaking Heads and Bathethwa Security have played a pivotal role in the growth of the company.
The awards will be presented at a gala event alongside the Durban International Film Festival this Saturday at the Durban International Convention Centre (ICC).
