Boxing their way to the top
Zululand boxers claim silver medals the SA National Amateur Boxing champs.
A TOTAL of 14 uThungulu district boxers represented KZN at the South Africa National Amateur Boxing Organisation (SANABO) Elite Championships from 1-6 July.
The five ladies from uThungulu who competed were Zamafuze Ngcobo (51kg), Bongekile Qwabe (54kg), Pinky Sibiya (64kg), Silindile Mthethwa (69kg) and Samkelisiwe Mpontshane (75kg).
The following men also participated: Sphelele Mhlongo (49kg), Sanele Ngcobo (52kg), Sanele Maduna (56kg), Tholumusa Ngema (56kg), Vusi Gumede (60kg) and Xolani Mchunu (75kg).
The provinces that attended the championships were Mpumalanga, KZN, Western Cape, Limpopo, Free State, North West, Northern Cape, Gauteng and Eastern Cape.

* Silver medals for – Zamafuze Ngcobo (flyweight), Pinky Sibiya (light welterweight) and Simphiwe Ntombela (middleweight)
* Gold medals for – Belinda Bowers (featherweight), Nomusa Ngema (lightweight), Silindile Mthethwa (welterweight), Sanele Maduna (bantamweight) and Sibusiso Malinga (welterweight)
