Reyes takes surfing showpiece

Reyes takes Mr Price Pro Ballito.

IN a tight head to head chase of waves in the ASP Prime event, the Mr Price Pro Ballito last week, American Tim Reyes pipped Matt Wilkinson from Australia by a mere 0.76 points on Sunday.

No surfing took place on Saturday and the quarter-, semi- and finals were contested on Sunday.

Filipe Toledo from Brazil, who had scored two ‘perfect 10s’ in the opening rounds, fell to Tiago Pires of Portugal in the quarter finals.

Another star of the early rounds, Australian Jack Freestone who was raking in ‘air reverses’ at will, was also knocked out in the quarters by fellow countryman, Matt Wilkinson.

Wilkinson managed to beat another Australian Adam Melling in the semi-finals before finishing second to Reyes who went through to the finals after beating Pires.
