Fifth rabies case in district
Concern has been raised over the hike in rabies cases within uThungulu.

TESTS carried out on a dog suspected of rabies in the urban area of eShowe has proven positive and this brings the number of positive cases for the uThungulu District for this year to five.
A call was made to the eShowe SPCA about a dog hiding in some bushes in the northern part of the town.
It was howling incessantly.
The SPCA went to collect the dog and found the animal to be showing symptoms of rabies such as aggression, howling, excessive salivation and disorientation.
The dog was euthanised and the brain sent for examination where the dog was confirmed to have had rabies.
Dr Johann Blignaut thanks the eShowe SPCA for a job well done.
He says the SPCAs are in the front line of the fight against rabies and they often have to deal with dogs of unknown origin and/or disease status.
He said, ‘I highly recommend that all eShowe residents have their dogs vaccinated.’
This can be done at the vet, SPCA or with the next rabies campaign in eShowe.
