Anti-poaching operation a success

Three-day anti-rhino poaching operation a success.

A THREE-DAY joint anti-rhino poaching operation was conducted by the SAPS Provincial Tracking Team, Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife and ZAP-Wing.

The teams concentrated on the areas around Jozini and uMhlabuyalingana from Friday, 27 June to Tuesday, 1 July.

During the cordon and search operations, the members recovered four 9mm military cases, nine Suni horns, 50kg of dagga, a dead Fish Eagle, Green Turtle (skull and shell), two Nyala horns, rhino/hippo skin and an African Rock Python skin.

Although no arrests were made during these operations, there were no rhino poaching cases that were reported over this period.

This has shown that these operations have a role to play in the war against rhino poaching and the operation was successful.

More such operations are planned in the area in the near future.

Provincial Commissioner, Lt Gen Mmamonnye Ngobeni encouraged members to continue with the good work in hunting down these merciless criminals to ensure that they get arrested and convicted.

‘We will remain committed and determined to confront rhino poaching from all angles,’ she said.
