Baby found in pit latrine

A three-day-old baby miraculously survives after being dumped in a toilet.

WHEN a KwaMbonambi man lifted the toilet seat of a latrine in the Nzalabuntu Reserve on Monday afternoon, he was shocked to hear the startling cries of a baby coming from inside the pit.

A new-born girl, who police believe was only three-days-old, was wrapped in a navy blue towel, placed in a plastic bag and dumped in the toilet.

As soon as Bonginkosi Khumalo discovered the wailing infant, he ran out to alert the neighbours, who quickly gathered to rescue her.

She was lifted from the pit and rushed to the nearest KwaMbonambi clinic by two neighbours before being transferred in an ambulance to the Lower Umfolozi Regional War Memorial Hospital in Empangeni.

‘It was a survival by grace,’ said KwaMbonambi SAPS spokesperson, Lieutenant Aubrey Bongani Msane.

‘A case of attempted murder was opened and no arrests have been made.

‘If anyone can assist with information contact the investigating officer Detective Sergeant VG Nene on 083 4484899.’

  1. This story is heartbreaking, and really when God grace is at work there is nothing that will bring it down, this baby was meant to live and she will grow to be blessed and beautiful. The person who did such a heinous act will suffer all through life.
