THE local counselling community is mourning the sad passing of SANCA social worker, Silungile Ndlovu, who died on Saturday after a short illness, one week after her 32nd birthday.
Known affectionately as ‘Slu’, Silungile was born in Kwa Dukuza and matriculated at Stanger High School in 2000.
She graduated with a BA Social Work degree at the University of Zululand in 2005 and worked at Empangeni Child and Family Care and LifeLine Ekurhuleni before joining SANCA Zululand as an Information Officer.
‘She was a hardworking and dedicated employee and we are going to miss her dynamic personality dearly,’ said SANCA Director, Shireen Sahadav.
‘She was professional, motivated, enthusiastic and caring. Slu is survived by her parents, brother and grandmother and we offer them our condolences.’
One of the areas Slu was particularly active in was the annual SANCA/Bay Watch ‘Walk Away from Drugs’ event and fellow committee members, who are currently planning this year’s walk, expressed their sadness.
‘Heart-felt condolences to the family and to you guys at the office for losing such a lovely and dedicated individual.
‘God’s plans are just like that, we can’t really understand them – but let Him be your strength in this time,’ said Zodwa Zikalala of RBIDZ.
Marilyn Muller of BHP Billiton said: ‘We saw Slu just days ago and to hear of her passing is beyond shock and sadness.’
Walk Chairman and SANCA board member, Bheki Gumbi said, ‘Words cannot describe how we feel. We have lost a hero, a real asset to the community. My heart goes out to her family, colleagues and friends.’
Zululand Observer Editor and SANCA Walk founder, Dave Savides added: ‘What a wonderful, gentle, caring person – always smiling and positive and a pleasure to be with.
‘My feelings go out to her family, including her Sanca family, who must be devastated.
‘This world has lost a great human being. The other has gained a beautiful spirit.’
i am so sad about the passing of Slu, she was an amazing person, a lady and a caring person. Social Work was her passion. she was a friend from UniZiulu and a colleague at Lifeline Ekurhuleni, my twin we shared a birth year and a month, we have lost a hero indeed
