THIS is in response to the Letter of the Week in the ZO of 13 June – ‘Inconsiderate men on their mean machines’.
Reference is made to this letter with full support from me and, I’m sure, all the residents living in the vicinity of Lake Sontwayo.
A few pertinent questions for which we need answers:
1. Are these machines/owners/riders licensed? There are under age children riding quad bikes and scramblers.
2. How do they get the quad bikes into this area when these bikes are not permitted on the roads?
3. Mining enterprises are subject to stringent laws regarding damage to the ecosystem and when the mine stops working, the owners have to bring the land back to its former state. What is different in this instance? These bikers destroy the land, pollute the air, chase the wildlife away and are a total nuisance and danger to the residents, elderly, children and animals that use this wonderful area to take walks, enjoy the scenery and release stress … until these inconsiderate bikers destroy everything about them – tranquillity, peace, fauna, flora and so on.
4. This is a residential area, why then are these bikers permitted to race up and down without any consideration given to the ratepayers living there? The residents of this area should insist on these activities being stopped – as ratepayers we are entitled to our rights of being able to enjoy peace and security and, accordingly, the City fathers and police need to take control of this beautiful area and ban the bikes.
STRESSED OUT
