Leopard shot in Heatonville

Leopards have been hunted for their soft fur, used to make coats and ceremonial robes.

POLICE and wildlife officials are investigating the death of a leopard on a Heatonville farm yesterday (Sunday).

Conservation Manager Specialist, Roy Jones, from Enseleni Nature Reserve, received word at around 10am, that a leopard had been shot.

Jones said Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife had three possible suspects for the attack.

Leopards have been hunted for their soft fur, used to make coats and ceremonial robes, as well as for their claws, whiskers, and tails, which are popular as fetishes.

  1. Open game? Not in the true sense of the word! In terms of the National Environmental Biodiverst Act, they are considered Vulnerable and therefore Protected by this legislation, even in Protected Area’s! Roy
