Shoppers flock to Mtuba Mall opening
Cash Build launched its community support initiative, ‘Art at Heart’ at the mall opening.
MTUBA Mall is open for business.
The mall was a hive of activity on Thursday, when residents from Mtubatuba and surrounding areas flocked to the town’s new attraction.
With a variety of special offers to entice shoppers, some shop managers found themselves having to limit the number of people inside at any one time.
Music blaring from numerous sound systems created a carnival atmosphere while shoppers waited patiently for their turn to browse.
The furniture shops, in particular, appeared to be doing a roaring trade, with OK Furniture Regional Manager, Stuart Baillie, reporting a high volume of sales from the outset.
‘I didn’t expect today to take off as it has, I am pleasantly surprised at the turnout,’ said Baillie an hour into trading on opening day.
Anchor tenant, Shoprite, kicked off opening day with their official ribbon cutting ceremony, after which some staff members began handing out hot soup to Mtubatuba residents.
In celebration of the store’s new premises, Shoprite donated R7 500 to local charity, KwaMshaya Community Centre.
Before opening its doors, Cash Build launched its community support initiative, ‘Art at Heart’. Pupils and teachers from eight schools in the area were invited to enjoy live music in a marquee in the parking lot. Each of the eight schools received a donation of R12 500 worth of building materials.
Other stores, including Jet, Truworths, Pep, Joshua Doore and Foschini opened their doors on 29 May, while Woolworths Clothing, Clicks and Capitec Bank, amongst others, will soon follow suit.
Mtuba Mall boasts about 17 200 square metres of lettable space and is almost fully occupied.
As part of opening celebrations, all shoppers who spent more than R100 at two stores were eligible to enter the week-long Spin-to-Win competition.
Mtuba Mall Centre Manager, Maria Rankin, said ‘We could not have hoped for better support on our opening day and look forward to building long term relationships with the local community’.
After completion of some final finishing touches, Mtuba Mall will be officially opened at a ribbon-cutting ceremony on 26 June.
