One of eShowe’s tourist attractions and popular birding site, Dlinza Forest Aerial Boardwalk will be closing its doors from 1 June, owing to a lack of finances.
The facility has attracted tourists to eShowe since its opening in 2003.
There will be a meeting to discuss the way forward at the Aerial Boardwalk on Thursday, 15 May at 10am.
All interested are welcome to attend. Suggestions and comments can be emailed to Jane Chennells on thechase@netactive.co.za
A bunch of us went last weekend what a lovely walk, its a shame that it’s closing down.
This is really sad news. Being an ex-Zululander, I have always made a point to visit the aerial walkway. It is always interesting to all the orchids, especially the Bolusiella maudiae.
A terrible loss you guys can’t do this it is a piece of heaven.
Thats so sad- its such a beautiful place ! I had my first sighting of a spotted thrush here! Please keep us updated regarding the meeting on the 15th
So very sad to read this. I’m an ex Eshowite and even though I don’t get back to Eshowe very often, when I do, I always try to do the Boardwalk… It’s breathtaking and we have had some wonderful birding moments there. I really hope something can be done to save and promote this beautiful attraction!
I am heartbroken to read this news! What a haven of peace and tranquillity, something all South Africans recognise is a rarity in these troubled times. Born and bred in Eshowe, having spent many wonderful hours in various parts of Dhlinza, walking and riding, I am devastated at this news. My beloved parents, now both gone to be with the angels, have their peaceful resting place in the Dhlinza forest. They enjoyed many a walk and visit to the boardwalk which provided much relaxation and enjoyment of bird watching for them both. Please save this enchanting place!

I really hope that there is some rich people out there that can buy the land and still keep it as an attraction. It will be a pitty if another site have to be closed. It will still be a place to go if fenced and entrance is R100 per person.
What an absolute shame! Funny how there is always money for parties and “RRRoadshows”!!! what about the staff AND the fact that it is a beautiful birding site!!!!!!!!
Without attractions like this tourism with slowly die leaving many out of work. Tourism accounts for 8.6% of this country’s GDP – don’t be penny wise and pound foolish and destroy what feeds so many impoverished in this country.
