OOH la la! Thula Thula Game Reserve welcomed a different, muscle-bound species boasting both brains and brawn, to its pastures last week in the form of the Paris Law Society rugby team.
The team of 25 lawyers, who arrived in South Africa on 1 May, aim to settle two important rugby ‘cases’ while touring the country.
Filled with their natural bonhomie, they were out last night (Wednesday) to do battle with Maritzburg Collegians’ third team at the Woodburn Stadium before taking their case to Cape Town where they plan a robust trial with the Ikeys Tigers at UCT.
The French squad has been in existence for 22 years, and plays in a local rugby league every Saturday back home.
The group stayed at Thula Thula Game Reserve for two days where they enjoyed game drives and relaxed in the ‘wild’.
‘We got to see wildlife for the first time in real life, which we are only accustomed to seeing on TV,’ said team-member Xavier Autain.
‘Thula Thula is a very beautiful place to stay, where the staff are friendly and the game rangers are clued up. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here,’ said coach Eric Forestier.
This is the lawyers’ first tour to SA. Over the years they have travelled to Sydney, Auckland, Wellington, Beunos Aires, Cardiff, London, Rome, Dublin, Edinburgh and Canada.
It will be au revoir to the French lads on 10 May when they return to France.
