YOUR front page article on Monday, ‘Birdswood under siege’, has reference.

In recent times UK residents and farmers have had similar problems with ‘New Age’ travellers gathering for various ancient festivals and impromptu rock concerts.

Collateral damage often consists of: sleep deprivation, trespassing, unsavoury sanitation and intimidation; vandalised and misappropriated property, including pets, livestock and wildlife.

The aftermath involves local ratepayers footing the bill to repair and clean up the resultant mess, applying for insurance claims and trying to catch up on lost sleep so they will be capable of continuing with their livelihood.

Respecting human rights and the ecology is more important than respecting cultures and beliefs.

Humans and animals have rights, cultures and beliefs don’t.
