Haul in these dangerous drivers

ONE of the mayor concerns for me is that no one is seemingly doing anything about the way that Transnet drivers are abusing the rules of the road, do what they please no matter who they affect or the lives they put in danger.

This happens in and around our community on a daily basis.

The latest incident (on 14 April) was the last straw and I want someone to make an example of these reckless drivers.

I was behind a lady in a Toyota hatchback at the main R102/R34 intersection in Empangeni, waiting to turn left towards the N2 (Mtubatuba direction).

When the light turned green we turned, but there is some road works at the moment, so we took it easy.

The next moment, a white VW Kombi with the registration number CA959 856 with a Transnet logo on the door just pushed into the right hand side of us, pushing us off the road and just kept on going.

We both had to swerve right to the left and physically stop dead for this reckless driver. I then overook the lady in front of me as her vehicle’s engine stalled due to the fright.

I accelerated to get close to the Transnet vehicle to get the registration, but this man just kept on overtaking vehicles recklessly in the face of oncoming traffic that had to veer out of the way to avoid a collision.

I have sent an email to the Transnet head office to report this, but whether anything will done remains to be seen.

We simply cannot allow this kind of road behaviour to continue as it endangers other road users.
