FRUSTRATING, annoying, time-consuming and time-wasting are but a few words that come to mind when I think of the roadworks on my way to work in Empangeni from Richards Bay every morning.

The never-ending road construction on the John Ross is a real pain.

To add to all the frustration, the main traffic light at the R34/R102 intersection was not working today (Tuesday) and my usual trip of 35 minutes ended up taking almost 50.

There was no traffic officer, or even a pointsman on duty, yet they lurk in the bushes every day from dusk till dawn to hand out speeding fines.

It’s high time our traffic officers step up and take control of the influx of traffic stuck bumper-to-bumper going into Empangeni in the mornings.
