WITH 87 deep sea and 13 bay boats hitting the water, cooler boxes packed to the brim with beer and suntan lotion at the top of the list, the 356 anglers participating in the 2014 Richards Bay Ski Boat Club Bonanza Fishing Festival had a whale of a time over the Easter Weekend.
Rods bent and reels sang a tune as fine catches were brought to the weigh station over the three days.
Dick Viljoen claimed the bragging rights for 2014 – and a beautiful boat sponsored by Z-Kraft as prize – after landing a 7.8kg Natal Snoek.
The female and junior competitors made the ‘ballies’ work for their fish, flaunting their fishing knowledge.
But while some anglers landed whoppers, others caught a sun tan that ‘skrik for niks’ and a headache from liquid carbohydrate loading.
‘We had excellent fishing conditions this weekend, which resulted in beautiful fish coming out,’ said Richards Bay Commadore Gerrie Delport.
