ZULULAND speedster and national champion, Justine Palframan, claimed gold and set a Varsity Athletics record in the 400m event on Monday evening at the Varisty Athletics Championships held at Coetzenberg Stadium in Stellenbosch.
The Maties student managed to hold off a charging Anneri Ebersohn from UP-Tuks, to secure first place in the first round of the championships.
The next round was on Monday 21 April at the University of Johannesburg.
‘The Varsity Sports concept, borrowed from the very successful USA college sports programme, combines the highest standards of university sports with high-octane excitement.
‘The recipe works well and the proof of the pudding, as they say, is in the eating and this is exactly what both the competitors and spectators did.
‘They ate up the excitement, soaked up the adrenalin-packed programme and visibly enjoyed every minute of the non-stop action during the exciting and eventful evening,’ said Marketing and Sponsorship Executive for Varsity Sports Trent Kent.
