DESPITE the rain and overcast weather conditions, Empangeni High School (EHS) still managed to give their ‘private friends’ a lesson in sport on Wednesday afternoon.
Felixton College (FC) took on EHS in rugby, hockey and netball.
The first team boys hockey clash got the action started, which saw both sides go into the shed goalless at half-time.
The second half heated up with both sides asking questions, but with finishing letting both sides down, the game ended in a goalless draw.
The girls first team hockey followed, with the home side stealing a 1-0 victory after Deonni Roos found the back of the Felixton box.
EHS dominated the game, which should have resulted in a bigger score, but complacency crept in.
Kirsty Motzouris was sent to the ‘naughty chair’ after not being five metres during play, which made matters worse for Felixton.
The first team netball was a one-sided affair, with Empangeni finishing on top with a 28-11 scoreline.
The scores were 10-1 to EHS after the first quarter), 16-3 in the second and 23-7 after the third quarter.
The last game of the day was the first team rugby clash, which produced huge hits and great tries.
EHS went into the shed at half-time with a slender 7-5 lead, after both teams played ‘scrappy rugby’ and displayed poor handling skills.
The second half proved better, which saw the ball being carried and tries scored.
The game ended at 26-17 to EHS.
