AN Empangeni family was woken up during the early hours of Monday morning to the ominous sound of glass shattering.
Panorama suburb homeowner Riana van Rooyen had fallen asleep on the couch in her lounge when the noise woke her.
‘Initially my dogs were barking and I dozed off again, but shortly after that I heard my window shattering and saw a brick on my lounge floor,’ said Van Rooyen.
‘I ran to press the ADT panic button and screamed for my husband, who came to the lounge to scare off the robbers,’
‘My daughter and I hid in the bathroom of the main bedroom and called the police on 10111, who confirmed that officers were on their way,’ said Van Rooyen.
In less than four minutes, officers from the Empangeni SAPS arrived at the home.
‘I was astounded at their quick response. Not only were they fast and efficient, but also comforting, polite, concerned and friendly. They were absolutely amazing.’
On Tuesday, Empangeni SAPS’ Warrant Officer Mthembu visited the family to check on their well-being and follow up on the case of house break-in.
