WITH a spring in her step, local actress, model and dancer Umi June is making her way to Hollywood.
This sexy and sultry young lady is steadily climbing her way to the top as she recently participated in the Summer Heat Model and Talent Search and was scouted by an agent to perform at the International Talent Showcase later this year in Johannesburg.
‘I will be performing for international talent agents and scouts including the owner of the New York Film Academy, which is every local actor’s dream,’ said the excited Umi.
Umi has been extremely busy lately starring in the latest movie, ‘The Return of the Killer Bride’, a film by Hello Boy Productions in which she plays the lead role.
Also featuring in ‘Zara’, a short film by Zia Corporations which deals with domestic violence, Umi met many fans at the movie’s premiere at Suncoast Casino during the 16 days of activism.
‘I have recently been cast as the supporting role of Neha in Ashok Entertainment’s, ‘Dear Jasmine’ which is currently in production.
‘My brother, Preshanthan, played a big role in getting me to where I am thus far. He is the one who introduced me to the magic of movie making.
‘My parents are incredibly supportive. They keep me grounded and understand that, as an artist, I cannot stick to the status quo. The media keeps me alive and helps me gain exposure.
‘And not forgetting my biggest fan, Previn. He is always supporting me and recording some of the videos which I later publish onto YouTube, or snapping some pictures of me to compile my portfolio,’ said Umi.
The former John Ross College pupil has also gained her honours at the National Arts Festival for her dance and choreography in 2009.
‘As a self-taught dancer, I am probably best known for my Michael Jackson dance tribute which has won me many accolades. I am also a Bollywood dancer who made it through to the national finals of an international Bollywood dance competition called, ‘Boogie Woogie’.
When asked about her future in the entertainment industry Umi simply replied, ‘The entire entertainment industry motivates me. The thought of working with my favourite actors and seeing my name in lights is what keeps me going.
‘I will always be a Zululander at heart, but I see myself in Los Angeles. That’s my dream, but I will never forget my humble beginnings.’
