Two out of three for Bay

Action packed day of hockey and netball at St Catherine's School.

BAAITJIES (Richardsbaai Hoërskool) made it two out of three over the weekend, when the boys hockey and netball teams both claimed the ‘Saints crown’ at the annual St Catherine’s Hockey and Netball Challenge.

Unfortunately the girls hockey team, failed to claim the hat-trick after going down 1-0 to Empangeni High School (EHS) in the finals.

Seven schools battled it out for two days (Friday and Saturday) on the fields and courts for the 2014 bragging rights, which resulted in some sensational games being played with great skill and team work being showcased.

The first final saw arch rivals EHS take on Baaitjies in the girls netball final.

The Bay side went into the half time break with a narrow 8-6 lead.

But with EHS playing catch-up netball, the Bay side kept applying the pressure to secure a 19-13 victory.

The boys hockey final saw Baaitjies and EHS asking questions at the goal box, but it was Zipho Biyela who found the back of the box in the dying seconds to claim the win for the Bay lads.

The last game of the day saw the girls hockey sides battling it out in a fairly evenly-matched encounter between EHS and Richards Bay.

But Deonni Roos put one in the back of the net for EHS to hand her side their third consecutive tournament victory.
