ST Catherine’s School broke ground recently with the construction of the new multi-functional artificial sports turf.
After seeing the great disadvantage that Zululand schools hockey has without the means of astroturf exposure, the Parents Teaching Association (PTA) raised the funds to build this facility at the school.
‘The aim is to improve the standard of hockey in the Zululand area, and give the children the exposure and experience of playing on an Astroturf,’ said the Chairman of the Board of Governer’s Lance Giles.
This multi-functional artificial sports turf will be 53m by 24m and have markings for hockey, soccer and netball.
Scribante Construction is the contractor that will be doing the project, and are part sponsors of the base.
One big advantage of the turf will be the shock pad that is being built into the base, which makes it unique in Zululand.
The ground was officially broken on Monday, 31 March, with the estimation of completion of the project being the end of May.
Part of the project will see seating cut into the bank.
Once completed, the facility will be on hire to the public.
For more information or to book the facility, contact the school on 035 7723041.
