Arrests in Bay racist attack

Two men in court on charges of common assault.

A WEEK after three Richards Bay women were allegedly attacked, assaulted and verbally abused outside a bar, two men have been arrested and charged in connection with the incident.

Daniel Roux and Hendrick Heerden appeared briefly in the Richards Bay Magistrate’s Court last Thursday on common assault charges and the matter was postponed for further investigation until 9 April.

The three women reported they had been assaulted and racially attacked outside The Ranch bar in Essenwood Way, Arboretum two weeks ago.

Two of them had had drinks inside the establishment and left to fetch a friend, however, they alleged when they returned, they were refused entry by patrons standing at the entrance of the premises.

They were told to go somewhere else as this was ‘not a place for Blacks’ and it is believed a brawl unfolded where the women were manhandled, beaten and bruised while having racial remarks directed at them.

The women were outraged that in this day and age, racism is still so rife and were heart sore the incident had occurred on Human Rights Day.

  1. How many white people were brutally killed on “human rights day” by black racists? Just a question…

  3. Its so true that some races think they know everything and that they are the only people allowed in certain pubs and act as if they own SA but don’t realise that they are a minority in SA and will live like that until elvis sings again, then you have the ‘new’ governmnet which feels like they own the country and want the best jobs and political seats then the country ends up like a circus that we live in,I’m glad I’m not either of you two clown groups

  4. Look @ our selves when are we ever gonna stop with all these racist comments cause that will be the only time we will be able to move on looking @ all the comments makes me wonder if we ever going to move on or keep repeating what we suppose to practice are we going to allow racism to win or are we going to beat it cause if u think and see what u have read makes u angry u just as guilty as those who are racist let our anger not make us hate these people but rather learn from them and practise what we preach

  5. Some time last year,my son n my husband were also verbally assaulted bt sum white guys outside the Ranch in Essenwood. Also sum friends had similar experiences. Sum whites still seem to live in the apartheid era. Its really sad.
