Modern library for Ntambanana Community
It has books prescribed by Unisa and the University of Zululand, and provides a free Internet to the community.
THE Ntambanana community in the uThungulu District is enjoying their state-of-the-art library.
This facility, which was handed over to the community by the KZN Arts and Culture MEC Ntombikayise Sibhidla-Saphetha on Tuesday, was built in 2012 at a cost of R11 million.
Over and above providing the local community with much-needed knowledge, the library also services five schools in the area, two of which are high schools.
This is part of on-going efforts by the KZN government to encourage reading and contribute towards improving the province’s matric results.
The initiative, which is a partnership between the department and Ntambanana Municipality, already has 600 registered members.
It also boasts a reading and writing club, where residents are taught to read and write in isiZulu, as well as a children’s section that encourages early childhood development.
It has books prescribed by Unisa and the University of Zululand, and provides a free Internet to the community.
The department currently spends R640 000 annually to keep the library going.
‘We are extremely proud of this project as it is an investment in our children’s future. ‘The entire community is benefitting from this initiative, and it helps the area to progress not only on a socio-economic level, but also exposes the people to facilities that can better their lives,’ said Sibhidla-Saphetha.
This project, which focuses on service delivery, forms part of KZN’s 20 years of democracy celebrations.
hye, I would like to praise for what Ntambanana municipality has done for its community members, for making a new development(library) as students will benefits more during their studies.
I must commend the Department together with the Municipality for such a great achievement. I am aslo a frequent user of the Library but I reside in Esikaleni. reason why i prefer driving to that library it is because it has all the resources you need as an academic student. I got my Honours Degree in Public Administration last year through countless hours that i spent in that Library. also the reception is very welcoming. Staff are friendly and assist everyone from school kids to adults in one spirit, let alone that the library is centered in the most rural area but these officials strive to let everyone enjoy using the Library.
